“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.” (Matthew 23:27 NIV) * Jesus rebukes “religious” rulers, teachers, and Christians who are mostly concerned about their outward appearance. “Precious Savior, cleanse our hearts and purify us within.” We confess the name of Jesus and we cry out to Him, To lead us into Your truth and to convict us of our sin. Help us look only to You for inward strength and powerĪnd ask for Your wisdom as Your truths we seek.įather, we need the power of Your Holy Spirit Help us to love our enemies and turn the other cheek. We ask You to tear down all of our self-made walls. So that we repent of our sins and call on Your Name. Help us examine ourselves and see us as we really are, We are Pharisees, filled with selfishness and pride,Īnd we seek power, riches, pleasure and fame. We appear polished and clean in the sight of all men.īut our hearts are filled with extortion and excess,Īnd we are filthy and ugly and unholy within. We neglect the important things such as love and mercy,Īnd we pride ourselves on our works that all may see.įather, we look like beautiful whited sepulchers. Yet within we are filled with hypocrisy and iniquity. We spend much of our time on our outward appearance, We are unclean and filled with dead men’s bones. May Your Holy Spirit intercede for us with groans,įor we are hypocrites like the scribes and Pharisees. Holy Father, we ask You to hear our heartfelt cry.
